Opex got started while working with utilities who kept seeing a recurrence in incidents that impacted safety despite buy-in from leadership on ensuring that safety was a top priority. What was missing was a systematic approach that was in place long before the aftermath of an incident. PPE policies, procedures, and work processes were not acting as an effective system that could monitor, control, and mitigate risk leading to sustained incidents. The journey to transcend towards a safety culture that moved past stop gap measures in the aftermath of pipeline and right-of-way incidents had to look deeper than recordable PMVA, DART, and OSHA metrics.

Our work was born out of a passionate belief that true workforce engagement coupled with an effective safety management system allows us to advance safety culture.
